Might be great but how do you get the remote out of the gosh-darn plastic case? I’m a college graduate, but I can’t get through the packaging. LOL

A lot thinner than I expected. Not much different from the white apple remote, but it’s nice controlling the iPhone now.

For $20, you really can’t complain about a device like this.
The remote is a unibody aluminum, so I figured it would be a perfect compliment to my Apple MacBook Pro MB991LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop. And it is…not only does it match neatly, it sync’d up to the MBP’s IR port without any configuration or changes.
Using it for DVD was also simple and sensible. Aside from the obvious Play/Pause and Menu buttons, the circle also functions as five separate buttons. The center aluminum button will alternate between Pause and Play. You can tap the right or left buttons to chapter skip, or hold either to frame skip. Didn’t have a use for up or down, but I assume they will do the same as left and right, respectively. I was also able to slide advance using the left and right buttons. I haven’t tested maximum range, unfortunately; when I do I’ll update the review.
Let’s keep this simple, shall we?
=-= What The Apple Remote Does RIGHT =-=
- Small, easy, convenient.
- User changeable battery (unlike the MacBook Pro, ironically)
- When pressed, opens Front Row so you can start watching movies right away
- Works nicely with iWork Keynote ‘09
- No overly complex buttons, keeps it simple
=-= What The Apple Remote Does WRONG =-=
- No backlight on the keys. Would this really have been that hard for Apple considering the MBP has backlit keys?
- Some more separate DVD navigation buttons would have been nice. Said buttons could also be Keynote navigation buttons; for example, a single button to jump slides.
- Because it’s standard IR instead of Bluetooth, it means that it will control any MacBook Pro. This is a blessing and a curse – great when you want to control presentations without having to set up in advance, not so great when you don’t want others controlling your MacBook Pro remotely. They can’t do much damage, but it’s the principle.
- Why didn’t Apple put a rechargeable battery in this thing, usable with the MagSafe adapter? That way you could charge the remote when the MacBook Pro is done charging. Or have a cable connected to the MacBook Pro so you could use it corded instead of wireless if you so chose, while still being able to charge it? Not that I envision having to change this battery very frequently, and as long as Radio Shack is somehow still around I can always pick one up, I suppose.
Don’t let my negatives fool you. I’m happy with the device, and I find it to be well worth the money. It works extremely well with my MacBook Pro, and I have no major complaints, only nitpicks. If you use your Mac for presentations, or media, you’ll want to pick one of these up. It’s really not that hard to use, and works wonders.

Sleek, cute & sexy, blah, blah, blah…
$20+ for a remote, what basically does NOTHING?! C’mon you guys! If you’re a Mac fan, I have a strong feeling, that you’ve already owned at least an iTouch or iPhone. Please, save your money! It works great with FrontRow, QuickTime Media Player, iTunes, iPhoto and … nothing else, sorry dudes, it also adjusts the volume on your Mac!!! Great achievement Apple! Screw that! Get an AirMouse Pro or Logitech TouchMouse (under $3) on your i…thingy!!! Those apps do WAAYYY much more than that overpriced remote controller!!!
